Country Club Committee Chairman’s Message
The Clearwater Bay Champions Cup 2023, formerly named as the Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup, has finally arrived to light up the Club’s tennis court. As the new Country Club Committee Chairman, it’s my honour and pleasure to welcome this 16th edition of the tournament – as this is one of the most anticipated events in the Club’s sporting calendar. Reflective of the rising prestige of the tournament, The Clearwater Bay Champions Cup 2023 offers the biggest prize money in the history of this tournament, offering a total prize purse of over HK$500,000.
With the huge popularity of doubles amongst the Club and amateur levels in Hong Kong, The Clearwater Bay Champions Cup 2023 will continue with doubles only. The tournament has gone from strength to strength over the years and attracting world’s top doubles players has never been a problem, yet the Club is now once again looking to improve the tournament for the Club members and the local tennis community by adding fresh new faces amongst the Asian region this year. This year’s field is filled with an unprecedented line-up of top tennis talents featuring 5 top doubles teams within the Asian region to elevate the level of this year-end spectacle to new heights and further raise members’ and public’s interest in tennis.
The focal point of The Clearwater Bay Champions Cup 2023 is of course the pair of the Club’s Tennis Ambassador Coleman Wong. Coleman has earned a place in the history of Hong Kong tennis after becoming the first locally born and bred player to break into ATP top 300. As the top local player, he not only continues to excel from Junior to Adult tournaments, but also to assume an exemplary role model to motivate other local players. We want to give local aspiring players a chance to see tennis at the highest level up close and personal. It is definitely a unique and invaluable experience because it is not something they get to see often.
It’s time to enjoy and cheer for the comeback of the tournament and I wish all players and members an amazing experience as we embark on a new and fantastic journey for The Clearwater Bay Champions Cup.
